Finally, an affordable stock appearing, stock sounding GM service replacement exhaust system for your GN, T-Type or Turbo T with LC2 engine.
Starting with 2.5” fully aluminized Canadian made pipe. Our pipes are a thicker gauge (55-60% thicker than other systems), the intermediate pipe is hand rolled and formed at the cat exit and beautifully welded to two 2-¼” pipes to form the Y.
Left and right over axle pipes continue to the low-restriction crossflow muffler with internal architecture and outer case stampings just like the GM 25520009 you would buy at the Buick parts counter back in the day.
Tailpipes have the correct cuts, welded brackets and captive metric nuts to make them indistinguishable from the OEM assembly line or OEM service replacement systems.
The muffler’s dual skin case has the baffles spot welded to the inner skin only, giving the exterior the correct GM smooth appearance.
We also go a step further with powder-coated tail pipes in correct satin black finish for lasting beauty.
All assemblies are actually fixture checked in our proprietary fixtures to assure dimensional consistency and fitment.
This exhaust package will include the "FIXTURE CHECKED" stenciled muffler just like a factory original system.
Highway Stars also INCLUDES all new hardware needed for installation, including four metric catalytic converter studs with four metric nuts and five metric washers, six hard to find correct original GM style 2-1/4" exhaust clamps and 2 hanger to tailpipe metric screws.
Note: Although the original factory exhaust system never came with a gasket between the catalytic converter and the intermediate pipe, we include a steel reinforced gasket in this particular package in case your stock catalytic converter flange is not in new, perfect condition. You must retain your original cat hanger, and left & right Exhaust Brackets w/insulator (see photos below)

A bit of history: The factory original systems were one pre-welded, pre-aligned unit behind the intermediate pipe to expedite assembly line installation. This factory original cat-back muffler/exhaust package was installed before the body drop on the frame and was never available as such at any GM service replacement parts counter. The part number stamped on a factory installed muffler was 25518343 and some later cars had “FIXTURE CHECKED” stenciled on the muffler body. After that, the only replacement option available through GMSPO (GM Service Parts Operation) consisted of an intermediate pipe, left and right over axle pipes, the muffler assembly with welded integral inlet pipes, and left and right tailpipes. This GMSPO system allowed for replacement at the dealer without having to drop the entire rear axle assembly as well as much more economical shipping costs. This GMSPO muffler is GM part# 25520009 and is correct for all 84-87 Turbo Regals except GNX. Since the technician would be installing a 6 part cat back system after cutting off the OEM system, they were not stamped “FIXTURE CHECKED” as they had the flexibility to be hand finished for alignment at point of installation.
Mathematically, the two 2-¼” pipes have an area larger than one 3” pipe, 7.95 in/ sq vs. 7.06 in/sq. The GM muffler has an open chamber center design and saves weight and ground clearance over 2 mufflers. The only appearance difference on our system you may notice is smoother bends for better flow. At this point in time, even low mile survivor cars have deteriorated original muffler internals due to corrosion from acidic moisture, making them louder and prone to "drone" even though the dual wall muffler looks fine from the outside. This system restores the original sound of the Turbo Regal as it left the Pontiac plant in 86-87.
We strongly recommend that this system be installed using a lift and/or at a professional exhaust/muffler shop.

Although this particular system is similar, it is not exact for the 1984 or 1985 vehicles. For the 84-85 cars, the round inlet Y pipe is being developed making a version of the system perfect for the 84-85 LM9 owners as the rest of the system is shared with all 4 years. 86-87 GN exhaust
As of 2024, I've been in the auto repair biz for 38 years. I bought this to replace the old Kenne-Bell system that was loud and droned and on my '87 GN since 1995 (I bought the car new). I had my "exhaust tech", who previously worked at Midas for 15 or so years, have the honors of installing it. He has installed or built 1,000's of exhaust systems. He said he has never seen the fit and finish for a pre-made exhaust system as good as this! And I love the OE look and sound again! Well done!
