Product Description
Brand-new OE standard-flow 180 degree thermostat. This part features a stainless-steel housing AND stainless-steel spring.
This thermostat has the lowest factory recommended temperature rating for any stock/street Vin 7 Buick Grand National, Turbo Regal or 1987 GNX.
The purpose of a thermostat is only to control MINIMUM coolant temperature, IT DOES NOT CONTROL MAXIMUM COOLANT TEMPERATURE.
Using a thermostat with an incorrect lower temperature rating (160 degree) CANNOT lower maximum operating temperatures. Lowering maximum operating temperatures can only be accomplished by increasing vehicle cooling system capacity.
Be aware that using a thermostat with an incorrect lower operating temperature (160 degree) may actually be harmful to the vehicle. It may not allow engine operating temperatures to reach levels high enough for maximum engine efficiency or designed expansion of engine components. In addition, cold weather engine operating temperatures may not reach levels high enough to remove moisture in the oiling system. Moisture is the primary cause of sludge formation and engine oil additive degredation which may contribute to premature engine failure.
The only way to insure proper minimum operating temperatures is to use the recommended temperature 180 degree thermostat.
